Margiela and Hermès

By 1

The first time I saw Martin Margiela’s work in a museum was in the Boymans van Beuningen in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. This exposition gave me a lasting admiration for this Belgian designer.

Fast forward to this year. MoMu Antwerp presents the exhibition “Margiela, the Hermès Years” with highlights of the Hermès collections during the period of 1997 until 2013 and the Maison Martin Margiela designs.

The spaces are divided into a dual colour scheme. White for Maison Martin Margiela and the iconic Hermès orange. Two worlds by one designer, the one about deconstruction and avant-garde fashion and the other all about timeless luxury.

On the surface, it seems that the aesthetics of both houses are so different, but seeing this visual explanation, it becomes clear that there are many similarities too.

His designs are simply genius and very impressive beyond words. Just go and get excited about fashion design and especially about this creative and his team.
